As the 117th Congress hits the ground running, VGM realizes the importance of all new congressional leaders understanding the initiatives of the DMEPOS industry and how it impacts our members, vendor partners, and ultimately their livelihood and the patients’ continuum of care.

Earlier this week, our team had the opportunity to sit down with Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA-2) in Davenport, Iowa on a very ‘chilly’ day. The VGM team consisted of VGM Group CEO Mike Mallaro, VP of Government Relations, John Gallagher, VGM Consultant, Tom Powers, and the Government Team Organizer, Emily Harken.

As you may recall, Miller-Meeks swearing in was delayed due to a very narrow and challenged victory over Rita Hart. Miller-Meeks won by 6 votes! She is replacing HME industry champion, Rep. Dave Loebsack in the 2nd district of Iowa.

Rep. Miller-Meeks took several pages of notes as we discussed issues including HME Reimbursement rates impacting CBA’s and non-rural reimbursement rates, regulatory burdens, CRT, women’s health issues and O&P legislation.

In our discussions we found the Congresswoman seemed to be engaging and well informed. As a former ophthalmology surgeon, military nurse and ER doctor (retired Lt. Col) have a very good understanding of the importance of medical equipment.

We will continue to work with her office and educate them on the DMEPOS issues and concerns.

We encourage you to also touch base with your representatives or introduce yourself and the DMEPOS concerns to them. Please let us know if we can be of assistance.
