ADMEA Members Meet with Members of Alabama Congress

During the week of April 26, VGM’s John Gallagher traveled throughout Alabama to meet with HME suppliers, the Alabama Durable Medical Equipment Association (ADMEA), and members of the U.S. Congress. Throughout each meeting, a variety of topics were discussed at great length. Topics included accessibility to quality service for Medicare beneficiaries, blended rates for non-rural and rural reimbursement, and HME supplier eligibility in PPE and vaccine distribution.

Montana HME Providers and Big Sky AMES Members Meet with Montana Congressional Offices

The week of April 19 was a big week for the Big Sky AMES! The group met with all three Montana federal congressional offices; Sens. Daines and Tester, and Freshman Congressman Rep. Rosendale’s offices.
Big Sky AMES has well-established relationships with the Senator Tester and Senator Daines offices. Those meetings provided an essential, current update with the staff members and the Big Sky AMES folks on the current industry efforts and the goals for the 117th Congress.

HHS Officially Extends Public Health Emergency for an Additional 90 Days

On Thursday, April 15, 2021, HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra announced an extension of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE). This extension will last another 90 days from April 21, 2021. The COVID-19 PHE was initially declared on January 31, 2020 (with acknowledgement that it has existed since January 27). Any PHE declaration can only last for 90 days at a time, but can be extended or renewed. It has already been renewed multiple times, and the 90 day extension that occurred in January... Last night, President Biden signed legislation to extend the pause of the 2% Medicare sequestration cuts until December 31, 2021.
The 2% cuts originally took effect in 2013 but were paused by Congress last year in response to the pandemic and its effect on providers' finances.

Last night, the House passed legislation to extend the pause of the 2% Medicare sequestration cuts until December 31, 2021. (Sequestration is a process of automatic, usually across-the-board spending reductions under which budgetary resources are permanently cancelled to enforce specific budget policy goals.)
